UK Visa Requirements
The UK standard visitor visa permits your stay in the UK for six months. UK standard visitor visa applies to travelers who wish to visit the UK for tourism, family visit, business meetings, and medical treatment.
The following are the documents you need when applying for a UK visitor visa. Besides your international travel passport booklet, all supporting documents must be A4 size before you take them to the submission center.
If the original of any document is smaller than an A4 paper, print out a scanned copy of the document. And take the copy to the submission center:
- International travel passport
Your valid international travel passport should contain one blank page (at least). It should be valid beyond the six months’ stay in the UK.
- Copy of passport data page
Make a copy of the data page of your international passport. The data page is the part of your passport that has your picture and biodata.
- Visa application form
The visa application form is available online. You can complete and print it out.
- UK document checklist
You will generate a copy of the document checklist online after submitting your application form.
- Appointment confirmation
Once you complete the UK application form online, the next thing is to book an appointment for submission. Ensure you print the appointment confirmation. It is an essential document required for the UK visitor visa application in Nigeria.
- Proof of accommodation for UK visa
This is a valid hotel booking voucher. The voucher captures the name of the traveler and the period of stay. It shows the name, address, and telephone number of the hotel as well.
- Flight reservation for UK visa
Your flight reservation covers your travel plans by air. The document shows the date you plan to arrive in the UK. And then the departure date. It shows the airline(s) that will complete the journey as well. Click here to get a flight reservation
- Six months bank statement
The statement of account is the best form when the print out date is less than two weeks on the date of submission. The accounts that matter are yours or a sponsor’s. This sponsor has to be a relative.
- Introduction letter from employer
The introduction letter should mention your full name (as they appear on the international passport). It should state your position in the company. And your expected date of resumption at the office.
If you own your business, one of your employees (such as the company secretary) can write the introduction letter. The letter must mention your position as the CEO and also state your expected resumption date.
All introduction letters must be on the company letterhead.
Note that student applicants can include a letter from the school and include their student identity card.
- Company registration certificate
You must include the company’s registration certificate if you own a company. You may include the company’s bank statement for the past six months as well.
- Tax document
If you own your business, the UK Embassy expects you to pay taxes. You must include the tax documents as proof of tax payment.
Employees can include salary payslip instead of a tax document. Salary payslip shows tax deductions by employers.
- Six months’ salary payslip
An up-to-date payslip is an ideal document that the UK embassy requires. It should capture salary payments from the previous six months to the last payment. But the payslip is an optional document. Your bank statement is enough as proof of finance for travel.
- Copies of previous visas and stamps
Make copies of previous visas that have been issued within the last ten years. Make copies of border stamps as well. If you are a first-time traveler, do not bother about this requirement.
- Landed property
The landed property documents include receipt, deeds of assignment, and land survey. If you own landed properties, it can help improve the chances of UK standard visitor visa success. But it is not a compulsory document. As you can apply for the UK visa without it.
- Marriage certificate
The Embassy gives more importance to certificates from the Ikoyi registry over those from local government registries. Whichever type you own is okay for the UK visitor visa application. But the marriage certificate is compulsory for married applicants only.
- Family pictures
Your wedding pictures and group pictures with the family will help establish your social ties in Nigeria.
- Child(ren)’s birth certificate
You need to go to the UK visa submission center with your children’s birth certificate – if you have children.
- Invitation letter
If attending a conference/business meeting, going for a medical checkup/treatment, or visiting a friend/family, you must include the invitation letter.
The letter should state your relationship with the host. It should mention your date of arrival and departure from the UK. The letter should mention your full names and passport number.
